My inspiration.
My fused glass started playfully making utilitarian pieces that are now becoming more bold. I take great pleasure in chaos and chance so as a dancer I have always been an improviser mostly thriving with live Jazz musicians. I take this dimension to my visual arts too: my costumes are made from found objects and unusual textures. This will make the costume a movement challenge. The stage sets are often resulting in spatial obstacles that will also determine my path on stage or interrupt lighting and projections. The same is to be said about the installation pieces which are designed to encourage people to get involved with all their senses.
I want to motivate people to discover possibility and beauty in problem, in discomfort.
When I work with glass I have the option of organizing color and shape with a lot of control or to discover a new path by breaking the glass and utilizing random chard shapes to create a composition. I'm also fascinated by texture which I explore with different crossings and thicknesses of glass and their reaction in the kiln. I sometimes prepare very deliberate patterns to eventually destroy them so they may come together with a different and surprising intention. It is my way of dialoguing with my material.
I'm not searching for a particular meaning but I often find mythology coming through my pieces in a very subconscious manner. That ultimate reading of my art in progress is what makes me decide wether a piece is finished or not. Following that, one piece will motivate another and in the end I have a series. I feel my method of working is very influenced by child play and a view of life always in awe of the world.
